REIMS, FRANCE

After a 3 hour drive from Calais we finally arrived in Reims -the city in the heart of the Champagne-Ardenne region...
It was our first stop on our whirlwind weekend trip with our friends. We wanted to take in as much as we could, as well as some well needed downtime involving plenty of Champagne of course!
We hadn't done a great deal of research or planning for the trip (for once) so went with the flow of the weekend (although having friends with maps - who happily took on the navigating, really did help)
A few of the main Champagne houses are based in Reims including Verve Clicquot and Lanson but as we had to drive on, we decided to save our champagne crawl for the next day, so opted to indulge in food instead - which is never a bad idea anyway!
---
Reims centre is small really and you can easily walk everywhere that you need to - the main attraction being Notre Dame-de Reims, a hugely impressive gothic masterpiece, brimming with immense history and architecture that takes your breath away - and in my opinion even more impressive than the Notre-Dame in Paris.
---
There is plenty on offer for food and drink, with many locals cafes to choose from. We ate lunch at Bistrot Du Forum, indulged in hot chocolate and cake at La Petite Friande and picked up Macarons from Douceurs
We were only in Reims for the afternoon, but I can only imagine it blossoming into such a lovely place to be in the summer. I suppose a quieter version of Paris, but with all the charm and coffee that comes with it.

Not long after our last coffee we were back in the car and onto our next destination - but more on that another day...
