Positano, Italy

Our time in the Amalfi Coast was a whirlwind visit. We took our flight out after work on Thursday, arriving into Naples airport just before midnight. Setting off on our journey down past Pompeii, through Sorrento and along the coastal road into Positano. Having gotten a glimpse of this slice of Italian paradise, we couldn’t wait to go to sleep so we could get up bright and early for our only day in Positano.

When: July 2016

Where: Positano, Italy

Stayed: Hotel Savoia

Ate: Chez Black

Drank: Francos

Sunbathed: D’Arienzo beach club

We chose to stay at Hotel Savoia – for no other reason than that we needed a triple room within walking distance to the beach. But we lucked out, what with the perfect picturesque views from our breakfast terrace, an easy 5 minute walk down to the beach and what turned out to be a very beautiful spacious room, with a large bathroom with a double walk in rain shower.

The beach was a very short and easy walk from the hotel, passing through the small windy streets, bustling with people and shops.

Once we reached the beach, the views back were to die for. We had never felt so lucky and excited to be in a place before.

Our aim was to try and get on the free shuttle boat to Adolfo – A popular beach establishment just 5 minutes round the coast and a place we had heard great things about! But unfortunately without a reservation they wouldn’t even let us on the boat. So if you plan to go make sure you book in advance.

But as soon as the Adolfo boat chugged away from the pier, another appeared just as quick, so we made the whim decision to jump on board and see where it took us.

Leaving the beautiful Positano views behind us we pulled up down the coast into a small cove and were lucky enough to bag some of the last few sun beds on D’Arienzo beach club.

We gossiped, bathed and frolicked in the water all morning, before retreating from the heat for a spot of lunch at the beach bar

A small and simple menu, we chose a few dishes to share, including fresh pasta and raviolli with seafood, aubergines and caprese salad, all washed down with crisp sparking wine.

If like me you get bored of sunbathing, the water is so beautiful to cool you down and go for a dip, but disclaimer the stones are just so painful on your feet, so bring some jellies or old flip flops to wear in the water

With the rest of the day getting away with us, we jumped back on the boat (they come around every half hour) and along the coast back to the jetty in positano.

once back on dry land we did as all Italians do and fuelled up on Gelato to keep the hunger at bay as we the hurriedly got ready so we didn’t miss sun-set at our now favourite bar Francos (just 3 minute walk from our hotel)
